Some carriers require a central burglar alarm system in order to provide Theft Coverage, and may warrant it on their policies. When an alarm is activated, it sends a silent alert to a monitoring service that notifies the local police or sheriff’s department who responds immediately. Their quick arrival to the business may even prevent a theft or further damage from occurring by catching the burglar(s) or scaring them away.

A wide variety of insureds have business personal property that would be attractive to thieves. It’s not only all types of retail businesses that are susceptible to burglars; bars and restaurants could have expensive televisions, audio equipment, large inventories of liquor, and displays of sports memorabilia. Libraries, churches, historical societies, and veterans clubs are just a few occupancies that may also have valuable art and antiques. Expensive computer equipment can be found in offices, schools, and most businesses. Theft Coverage is an important part of a commercial insurance package.
